How Much Do Life Insurance Agents Make?

I will answer this one carefully, because the honest answer is: it depends.

I know that is not what you came for. Let me explain why, and then give you something useful.

If you want to see whether this career could fit you before you read further, take the Career Fit Questionnaire. It is a good first step either way.

What the public numbers say

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median annual wage for insurance sales agents of $62,280 (May 2025). A median means half earned more and half earned less. It covers all kinds of insurance sales across the country, not TFA, and it says nothing about what you will earn.

Why it varies so much

  • Most life insurance sales roles are commission based. You are paid when business is written, not for your time.

  • It takes time to build. The first months can be slow.

  • Effort, skill and the market all matter. Two people with the same license can have very different results.

  • Many new agents leave in the first year. Search results for this topic say so openly, and I would rather you hear it from me.

What I can say about TFA

I do not promise income, and no one should. What I can promise is this: you will get a written 90 Day Plan, a system to follow, training support and an honest conversation before you commit. We call it the TFA Momentum Method.

We have an agent development system that makes it easier for you to help your clients through a 5 Step Client Stewardship Roadmap.
